The UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen has been one of the most keenly anticipated events of this year…. but do conferences actually do any good?
The Copenhagen Conference taking place at the moment is hopefully - fingers crossed - going to save the world. However, many are now arguing that the conference will be just another failed attempt at solving the problem of climate change.
This isn’t hugely surprising considering this deal will be made to replace the Kyoto protocol - a treaty described recently by a leading scientist as a ‘miserable failure’. Clearly the doubters do have a point. It can be hard to have faith in conferences when they often seem dominated by petty debate rather than real, meaningful action.
However, at Leap we are all about taking positive action and it’s good to see many other people feel the same way. One group of activists, the UK Youth Delegation, took matters into their own hands and descended onto Copenhagen to help push for the right deal to be made. Why not read their story? Remember, you don’t have to be a UN delegate to help save the planet.
